Description

Canning is an industrial method of food preparation that dates back to the early 19th century and is an important aspect of the political and social, economic and technological conditions of life. The event will offer insight on how the expansion of fish canning and the development of the fish industry on the Adriatic islands and the Slovenian coast is encouraging us to discuss science and technology, food politics, the emancipation of women, the degradation of the natural environment, the clash between industry and tourism, and the production of plastic waste that usually ends up in the sea. 

Participants: Iva Kosmos (ZRC SAZU), Nataša Rogelja Caf (ZRC SAZU), Srečko Gombač (amateur researcher of technical heritage) in conversation with Martin Pogačar (ZRC SAZU).
